HSU Wins 14th in a Row To Start The Season

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' second-ranked women's basketball team shook off a rusty first half and had one of its best halves this season in the second half en route to a 92-58 American Southwest Conference West Division win over Sul Ross State, Thursday evening at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls led just 36-30 at the half, but outscored the Lobos 56-28 in the second half to take the win. Kendra Anderson led a balanced attack with 20 points and 12 rebounds.

Veronica Jones had 16 points, five assists and four steals. Laura Ricci added 15 points and eight rebounds and Lauren Harris had 10, all in the first half. The Cowgirls starters came out with about 10 minutes to go in the game. Hannah Jones had an impressive nine points, including the first 3-pointer of her career.

HSU forced 30 turnovers and came up with 22 steals in the game. They also added 24 assists.

April Ramirez led the Lobos with 20 points and 15 rebounds. HSU improved to 14-0 and 4-0 in ASC play and Sul Ross State fell to 9-6 and 2-3 in loop action.

HSU will return to action Saturday when it hosts Howard Payne for first place in the ASC West Division.
