Cowgirls Fall To McMurry, 68-59

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team fell behind early and could not get all the way back in a 68-59 American Southwest Conference loss to McMurry, Monday night at the 11th Annual Kiwanis Club of Abilene Basketball Shootout at the Mabee Complex.

McMurry jumped out to a 14-4 lead and never trailed in winning their second straight game over the Cowgirls. It is the first time that the Cowgirls have ever lost both games to McMurry in the same season.

The Cowgirls once trailed by 20 points at 52-32, but battled back and eventually cut the deficit 65-59 with 1:51 to play on a Bo Warm jumper, but McMurry held on for the victory.

HSU was led by a career night for senior Shelby Hodges, who poured in 18 points and hauled in 17 rebounds. Rachel Cisneroz had 14 points for the Cowgirls.

Tarra Richardson had 25 points and 11 rebounds for McMurry. Maigen Sawyer added 17 points.

The Cowgirls struggled shooting in the game hitting just 29.3 percent, while McMurry shot 45.1 percent.

With the loss, HSU fell to 12-3 overall and 9-2 in ASC play. McMurry improved to 14-1 on the year and 11-0 in ASC play. The Cowgirls hit the road for a game with Texas Lutheran on Thursday in Seguin.
