Cowgirls Fall To UMHB

BELTON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' third-ranked women's basketball team was dropped a 68-47 decision to Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Gym in Belton on Saturday.

The Cowgirls only had four players find the scoring column and were outrebonded 56-30 by the bigger and more physical Crusaders. UMHB led 37-19 at halftime and the Cowgirls closed it to 11 early in the second half but could not get any closer. HSU hit just 17 of 70 shots in the game and did not connect from 3-point range.

Melissa Henley had 21 points for the Cowgirls and Diana Martinez added 17 to lead the Cowgirls. Lisa Martinez had 20 points and 15 rebounds to pace the UMHB attack.

UMHB improved to 10-6 overall and 8-5 in ASC West play. HSU fell to 13-2 overall and 10-2 in league action.

HSU will host Texas Lutheran on Thursday.
