Cowgirls Dominate In Second Half For Win

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team won its sixth straight game with a dominating second half effort to down Mary Hardin-Baylor, 88-67, in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.

The two teams were tied at halftime, as UMHB hit seven 3-pointers in the first half to keep the game close. In the second half, the Cowgirls shot 60.7 percent from the field and the Cowgirls limited the Crusaders to 34.8 percent to garner the win.

HSU came out of the halftime locker room with a 10-2 run to take a lead they would not relinquish. A late 16-3 run that the Cowgirls had with several reserves on the floor put the game away.

Lyssa Dennard led the Cowgirl effort with 21 points and Saray Hauk had a career-best 12 points. Laci Walker had 10 points, seven rebounds and three blocks in eight minutes of the bench.

Shannon Barnes led UMHB with 15 points and Blair Heitmiller had 13 points.

HSU improved to 12-2 with the win and to 10-2 in league play. UMHB fell to 3-12 overall and 3-9 in conference play. Hsu hosts Concordia-Austin on Saturday at 1 p.m.
