BELTON, Texas - Kendra Anderson led four Cowgirls in double figures as the second-ranked Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls improved to 12-0 on the season by defeating an upstart Mary Hardin-Baylor team 78-68 at the Mabee Gym in Belton on Thursday in American Southwest Conference West Division play.

Diana Martinez had a career-best 16 points and also added six assists, five steals and three rebounds in the win. Laura Ricci filled the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and a career-best seven steals. Sarah Allen chipped in 13 off the bench.

HSU trailed 63-61 with 6:43 to go in the game, but the Cowgirls responded with a 17-7 run to close out the game, including seven by Anderson and five by Sarah Allen. Laura Ricci had two steals and two rebounds in the run. It was the latest the Cowgirls had trailed in a game this season.

Super freshman Lisa Martinez led the Lady Crusaders with 24 points and 10 rebounds.

The win improved the Cowgirls to 12-0, but more importantly 2-0 in American Southwest Conference West Division play. UMHB fell to 9-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.

HSU will return to action at Concordia-Austin on Saturday at 1 p.m.
