Cowgirls Win 36th Straight Game Against ASC Foe

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team moved its home court conference winning streak to 44 games and won their 36th straight game against an American Southwest Conference opponent with a 66-51 win over ASC West co-favorite Mary Hardin-Baylor, Thursday evening at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowgirls used a balanced attack that was paced by senior Veronica Jones; 14 points. Lauren Harris and Diana Martinez each added 11. Martinez had eight assists and eight rebounds in the contest.

The game featured 51 fouls and the Cowgirls were 19-for-20 at the line, compared to 16-of-25 for the Crusaders. HSU committed 30 fouls in the game and there were a combined 18 offensive fouls in the contest.

HSU's pressure defense forced the Crusaders into 29 turnovers. Lisa Martinez led the Crusaders with 16. Michelle Latta added 10.

With the win the Cowgirls improved to 12-1 and are now 2-0 in ASC West play. The Crusaders fell to 8-5 overall and 1-1 in ASC West play.

The Cowgirls return to action Saturday when it hosts Concordia-Austin at 1 p.m.
