Lyssa Dennard

Jan. 13, 2005

Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Lyssa Dennard sunk Howard Payne with a 12-foot jumper from the left baseline as time expired to give the Cowgirls a 61-60 American Southwest Conference win and move into sole possession second-place in the ASC West.

Diana Martinez, who went over the 1,000-career point mark earlier in the game, pushed the ball down the floor with seven seconds, did a pump fake that got the Jackets in the air and found Dennard open for the jumper. It was the first time since the 17:47 mark of the second half that the Cowgirls had led.

In the game there were seven lead changes and the score was tied seven times. Melissa Henley was unstoppable for the Cowgirls in the post. The sophomore had 27 points and 10 rebounds. Martinez had 13 points and 10 assists in the game.

Freshman Meia Daniels had 19 points off the bench to lead the Lady Jackets. Kami Collins added 13, Heather Hohertz added 11 and Rachel Offineer had 10 points in the game.

The Cowgirls won their sixth straight game and improved to 11-1 on the year and 9-1 in ASC West play. HPU fell to 11-2 and 8-2. HSU hosts Sul Ross State on Saturday.
