TYLER, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team rolled to a 75-53 win over UT Tyler in American Southwest Conference action at the Herrington Patriot Center in Tyler. Lindsey Newcombe led the Cowgirls with 16 points and a career-best 19 rebounds. The 19 rebounds was one shy of Donna Roberts school record of 20. The Cowgirls trailed 27-26 with six minutes to play in the first half, but a Kristen Harris 3-pointer sparked a 16-6 run to end the first half. HSU led 42-33 at the halftime break. After that the Cowgirls played some of their best basketball of the season in the second half. HSU received a balanced effort as Ashley Allen added 15 points and 10 rebounds. Haylee Allen chipped in 13 points and Kristen Harris had a career-best 11 points. HSU limited UT Tyler to 29.2 percent shooting in the game. HSU also outrebounded the Patriots 56-45 in the game. UT Tyler was led by Melissa Thomas' 16 points. Becky Taylor chipped in with 13 points. The Cowgirls have now won seven straight games to move to 10-2 on the year and for the second straight year HSU went 7-0 against the ASC East. HSU is 7-1 in league play. UT-Tyler fell to 7-6 overall and 4-4 in ASC action. HSU will host Mary Hardin-Baylor in American Southwest Conference action on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. |
