Final Stats

ALPINE, Texas - Melissa Henley poured in 25 points and 10 rebounds to propel the Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team to a 75-61 win over Sul Ross State, Thursday evening at the Gallegos Center in Alpine.

The Cowgirls won their fourth straight game and its 17th in a row over the Lobos. HSU jumped to an early eight-point lead, and were never really threatened, although the scrappy Lobos would never allow the Cowgirls to run away from them.

Lyssa Dennard regained some of her shooting stroke and had 11 points, including two 3-pointers. HSU had balnced the rest of the way as 12 Cowgirls scored. Sonya West played only seven minutes as she was battling back spasms.

Angelique Benton led the Lady Lobos with 19 points and Janice Mitchell added 14 points.

HSU improved to 10-2 on the year and 8-2 in league play. Sul Ross State remained winless at 0-13 and 0-10 in ASC play.

With the win the Cowgirls moved into a tie for second-place with Howard Payne, who lost to McMurry on Thursday. HSU and Howard Payne play on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Abilene.
