Newcombe Has Double-Double As Cowgirls Roll

RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team won its sixth straight game with an 80-65 win over UT-Dallas, Thursday night in American Southwest Conference action at the UTD Activities Center.

The Cowgirls received a pair of solid performance from Ashley Allen and Lindsey Newcombe. Allen had 22 points and seven rebounds and Newcombe had 22 points and 11 rebounds.

HSU led 35-19 at halftime and then pulled away in the second half leading by as many as 22 points before UTD made a late rally.

HSU dominated on the defensive end, limiting UTD to 26 percent in the first half and 39 percent for the game. HSU forced 20 turnovers and dominated the rebounding, 49-26.

Ericka Baker led the Comets with 18 points. Chelsea Edwards had 15 points.

The win was the sixth straight for the Cowgirls and improved their record to 9-2 overall and 6-1 in league action. UTD fell to 7-5 overall and 3-4 in ASC play. HSU will play at UT-Tyler at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
