ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team used a dominating defensive effort to overcome a frigid shooting game en route to a 69-46 American Southwest Conference win over Austin College, Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex.

HSU shot just 29 percent in the first half and 33 percent for the game but a defensive effort fueled a huge 23-4 run that spanned an almost 14 combined minutes at the end of the first half and to start the second half. Hsu went from trailing 19-9 to leading 32-23 and they never looked back.

The teams top four scorers combined to go 11-for-45 from the field. However, the Cowgirls limited the Kangaroos to 31.5 percent, forced 26 turnovers and won the battle of the boards 46-38.

Lyssa Dennard led the way for the Cowgirls with 18 points and seven rebounds. Sonya West had her third straight double-double with 10 points and 13 rebounds. Jamie Jones added a season-best nine points of the bench.

Austin College was led by Annie Laski and Andrea Bauer. Both players scored nine points each for the Kangaroos.

HSU improved to 9-2 with the win and are now 7-2 in league play. HSU was 7-1 against the ASC East in their only trip around the ASC East this season. Austin College fell to 7-5 overall and 4-5 in the ASC.
