ABILENE, Texas - Laci Walker scored 23 points to fuel the 16th-ranked Hardin-Simmons women's basketball team to a 74-72 American Southwest Conference win over UT-Tyler Saturday afternoon at the Mabee Complex. Melissa Contrucci had a solid second half and posted her third double-double of the season with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Lyssa Dennard chipped in 15 points. The Cowgirls trailed at halftime, after Kristen Harris' jumper at the buzzer made it 34-33. Neither team led by more than six points in the first half. The game was 56-55 with 8:21 to play, but the Cowgirls hit their trademark run. Hsu scored eight straight points to make it 64-55 with 5:48 to play. It was still a nine-point game with 3:10 to play at 67-58, but UT-Tyler cit it to 71-69 with :29 seconds to play. HSU hit three of four free throws to make it 74-69 with :16 to play. Shamonica Shead made a 3-pointer with :04 to play and the Cowgirls ran out the clock. Shamonica Shead and Sarah Stanley had 21 and 20 points respectively to fuel the Patriot effort. The Cowgirls have won four straight games and have improved to 9-2 on the year and 7-1 in ASC play. HSU went 7-0 against the ASC East this season. UT-Tyler fell to 7-6 and 3-4 overall. HSU hits the road to play Concordia-Austin as the Cowgirls start ASC West play on Thursday. --- HSU Athletics --- |
