Jan. 6, 2005 SHERMAN, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' women's basketball team won its fourth straight game with a 63-48 American Southwest Conference win over Austin College Thursday evening in Sherman. HSU led 53-39 at the 5:23 mark of the game, but Austin College scored seven straight to make it 53-46. Lyssa Dennard then moved out to a 10-point lead when Lyssa Dennard buried a 3-pointer from the right wing at the 2:50 mark. The Cowgirls were able to pull away down the stretch. Diana Martinez had 18 points and Melissa Henley added 16. Dennard added 13 and senior Melissa Forth chipped in 11 to pace the balanced attack. Libby Kellum led Austin College with a game-high 20 points, including 16 in the second half to keep the Kangaroos in the game. HSU led 27-22 at the half. The ASC East leading Kangaroos fell to 6-3 overall and 4-3 in the league. HSU improved to 9-1 overall and 7-1 in ASC play. The Cowgirls play at the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, Ark. On Saturday at 1 p.m. |
