Cowgirls Rout Comets With Second Half Surge

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons started slow in the first half, but played a strong second half as they rolled past UT-Dallas 71-49, Thursday evening at the Mabee Complex in American Southwest Conference women's basketball action.

The two teams were tied at the half at 28. HSU outscored the Comets 26-6 over the first 12 minutes of the second half. The Comets went 6:06 in the second half without making a shot.

Senior Lyssa Dennard had her best night of the year with 20 points to lead a balanced Cowgirl attack. Melissa Contrucci added 10 points. Dennard had 12 of the 26 points in the decisive run in the second half.

Chelsea Edwards had 13 points and Ericka Baker chipped in 12 for the Comets. HSU forced 23 turnovers and limited the Comets to 33.3 percent shooting in the game.

HSU improved to 8-2 on the year and to 6-1 in league play. UT-Dallas fell to 4-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play. HSU hosts ASC East leader UT-Tyler on Saturday at 1 p.m.
