Cowboys Compete in ASC Individuals

ABILENE, Texas - Stephen Salazar won flight nine singles and Ryan Waters and Wade Morgan teamed to win No. 1 doubles to highlight HSU's men's tennis team in the ASC Individual Championships this past weekend.

Waters advanced to the men's singles flight one championship, before falling to Dustin Phillips of UT-Tyler, 6-3, 7-5 in the finals. He did not drop a set en route to the final. Daniel Moore went 1-2 at No. 2 singles.

In flight three singles, Wade Morgan dropped a tough three-setter in the semifinals after winning one match. Justin Lockaby won a match to get to the semifinals in flight four, before losing to Robert Sajovich.

In flight five, Trey Chavez went 2-2 to place fourth in the flight. In flight six singles, Ramon Aguirre lost his first match, but won three straight matches to win the consolation bracket.

In flight seven, Emmanuel Navejas had a good showing advancing to the finals, before dropping a tough three-set match to Marcus Koening of UT-Tyler. Todd Henington and Tanner Reed Michael Rader and Logan Neal each went 1-1 in flight eight.

The only Cowboy to win his flight was Salazar, who won in three sets in the finals over Jerrett Dawson of Howard Payne.

Morgan and Waters did pair to team the No. 1 doubles titles, losing only four games in the entire tournament. Lockaby and Tanner Reed fell in the semifinals of flight two doubles.

Newcomers Todd Henington and Michael Rader had a strong showing in flight three doubles, falling 8-5 in the finals. Chavez and Moore, Neal and Nevajas, and Aguirre and Salazar each fell in the quarterfinals of flight four doubles.
