Cowboys Advance To ASC Finals

TYLER, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's tennis team advanced to the finals of the American Southwest Conference Tournament with a 5-2 win over Mississippi College Saturday in Tyler.

The Cowboys will look for their seventh straight ASC title with a 1 p.m. match against the host UT-Tyler at 1 p.m. on Sunday. HSU has won 69 straight ASC matches.

HSU won two of the three doubles matches to take the early lead. Ryan Waters and Wade Morgan won 8-5 at No.1 doubles over Chas Dunn and Patrick Stanton. Justin Locakby and Andy Cairens won at No. 2 doubles, 8-6. MC won 8-4 at No. 3 doubles.

Daniel Moore, Justin Lockaby and Trey Chavez each had straight set wins to wrap up the match at No. 3, 5 and 6 singles respectively. Waters lost to Dunn, 6-3, 6-1 at No. 1 singles and Wade Morgan and Cariens did not finish their matches as the dual was decided with them still on the court.

HSU improved to 12-6 with the win and Mississippi College ends its season with a 13-5 mark.
