Junior Brad Grace

March 30, 2003

BROWNWOOD, Texas - The HSU men's tennis team improved their record this weekend after defeating Howard Payne and Mary-Hardin Baylor.

The Cowboys defeated Howard Payne 9-0 in an ASC match-up on Saturday. HSU saw strong play in both doubles and singles. Including the duo of John Roaten and Ethan Moore who paired up at the No.3 doubles spot, defeating HPU's duo of Kevin Fisher and Perry Nutt 9-8. The momentum helped HSU to sweep Mary-Hardin Baylor later that afternoon.

HSU showed no mercy against the Crusaders defeating them 9-0. The Cowboys started strong with doubles wins from all three teams. The men then quickly finished up the match to give them an 11-3 overall record and 5-0 in ASC play.

The Cowboys will return to action this Friday when they will travel to Trinity University in San Antonio for a regional match-up. The match is scheduled for 2 p.m. HSU will then travel back home to host the last matches of the season before the American Southwest Tournament. Play will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday against Schreiner and Texas Lutheran at 1:30 p.m.
