HSU Sweeps TLU in Tennis

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' tennis teams swept Texas Lutheran on Saturday to continue their dominance of the American Southwest Conference. The Cowgirls have now won 42 straight ASC matches, while the Cowboys are on a 36-match streak.

The Cowgirls won by a score of 6-3, after it defaulted No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles to the Bulldogs. TLU's Angela Bryant and McKenzie Swindle had a tough battle at No. 1 singles, with Bryant winning, 6-4, 6-4.

HSU dominated the rest of the matches in the dual. Swindle and Stephanie Haynes won 8-3 at No. 1 double and Hazel de la Torre and Caroline Scott won 8-5 at No. 2 doubles. Tracy Hennington won 7-5, 6-0 over Jenny Growcock at No. 2 singles. Haynes won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 3, Scott won a three-setter 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 4 and de la Torre won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5.

In men's action the Cowboys swept through the Bulldogs 7-0. David Wu and Brad Grace remained undefeated this spring in doubles action and Roy Lehman and Reed Stafford won at No. 2 singles, Wes Kidd and Wade Morgan continued the roll at No. 3 doubles.

In singles play all of the Cowboys won in straight sets. Wu, Grace, Lehman, Kidd, Morgan and Reed won at 1-6.

The Cowgirls hit the road to California this weekend and the men play at the ACU Invitational.
