CLAREMONT, California - The HSU men's tennis team began there strive towards nationals this past weekend. The Cowboys faced off with Occidental College on Thursday defeating them 7-0 and on Friday losing to the Redlands 6-2 and defeating Whittier 7-0. Against Occidental the men came out strong in doubles showing no mercy. The Cowboys picked up the doubles point and soon closed the match with six wins in singles. HSU then faced No.5 nationally ranked, University of The Redlands. The Cowboys lost the doubles point, only winning the doubles match of Brad Grace and David Wu. Unfortunately the men were unable to grab any singles matches, except for freshman David Wu, who won 6-0, 6-3. To finish off the weekends play the Cowboys traveled to Whittier College. HSU won the match 7-0, having very little trouble. HSU hopes with the wins of this past weekend that their regional as well as national rankings will be effected, which will give them the opportunity to compete in the NCAA Division III national tournament in May. The Cowboys will return to action after spring break, in which they will travel to Alpine to take on Sul Ross University in an ASC Conference match.
