HSU Men's Tennis Set to Open Conference Play

ABILENE, Texas - The HSU men's tennis team begins ASC play this weekend. The Cowboys are looking to continue their success from last season. With a regional ranking at #9, a conference title, and with both a singles and doubles nationally ranked, the season is promising.

HSU has a full men's team this year with plenty of strong players competing for various spots on the team. The Cowboys are led by senior Mitch Aston, who is ranked #37 in the nation in singles and #13 in doubles with partner Mark Plowman. Aston is looking to return to the national tournament again this year. Individual regional ranking gives the spotlight to two other HSU Cowboys. Freshman David Wu is ranked #25 in the West Region in singles and #8 in doubles with partner Brad Grace.

The Cowboys will open play at noon on Friday with a match against Division II Western New Mexico. Then ASC play will begin with a match against Concordia at 4:00p.m., both scheduled at HSU, weather permitting. On Saturday HSU will return with matches starting at 9:00a.m at HSU against McMurry. At noon the Cowboys will take on rival Southwestern. Who is ranked #10 in the region, one behind HSU at #9. The weekend will end with a conference match-up with Howard Payne starting at 5:00p.m at Fairway Oaks Country Club.
