Shaughnessy, Almack Set For PDL Final

ABILENE, Texas - A pair of former Hardin-Simmons men's soccer players will suit up for the Laredo Heat in the USL Premier Development League Championship Game that will be televised on the Fox Soccer Channel at 10:30 p.m.

Former All-ASC players Ryan Shaughnessy and Jacob Almack play for the Heat and Shaughnessy is the starting goalkeeper for Laredo and is among the league leaders in wins and goals against average. Almack has three goals as a midfielder on the team that has posted a 14-2 record.

Shaughnessy has recorded five shutouts for the Heat, who went 14-2 in the regular season and have won three straight one-goal games to advance to the finals of PDL. It will host the Orange County Blue Stars for the title.

The PDL is the top under-23 men's amateur league in North. The 2006 campaign features a 59-team format within four conferences. Players have the ability to compete in the PDL throughout the summer months in a professionalized setting while maintaining their collegiate eligibility.

Current Cowboy David Salas played for the DFW Tornados this summer and posted two goals in 13 games.
