Men's Soccer Announces Schedule

Senior Jeff Brooks

July 22, 2003

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons men's soccer coach Dan Heger has announced his schedule for his first year back at his alma mater.

The schedule will not be an easy one as the Cowboys will face two of the traditionally top five teams in the nation in a matter of a week.

HSU opens its season with a home game against the University of the Ozarks on August 29 at 7 p.m.

The Cowboys follow that up with a trip to Wheaton, Ill. for a tournament on Sept. 5-6. Wheaton is one of the top programs in the nation, having made 10 straight NCAA Tournament appearances. The Cowboys will play the winner or loser, depending on the outcome of their match with Wheaton, of the match between St. John's (Minn.) and Hope (Mich.).

The following weekend HSU will play in the SCAC-ASC Shootout in Richardson where they will play Southwestern and nationally-ranked Trinity on successive days.

On Sept. 19-20 the Cowboys come home for their first two American Southwest Conference matches against Concordia on the 19 at 8 p.m. followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor on the 20 at 4 p.m.

The Cowboys then go to Schreiner and Texas Lutheran, return home for McMurry on Oct. 4, go to the University of Dallas for a non-conference match on Oct. 7 and then go to Concordia and Mary Hardin-Baylor.

HSU closes out its home schedule with Schreiner and Texas Lutheran on Oct. 17-18 and then has three straight road matches before the ASC Tournament, at St. Mary's, McMurry and St. Edward's.

The Cowboys would have to travel to the ASC East Division champion if it advanced to the ASC Tournament on Nov. 7-8.

Heger's troops will begin fall practices on August 18th.
