SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team gave a valiant effort against No. 1 Trinity, in the end the Tigers were too strong in a 2-0 win in the first round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship on the TU campus Saturday afternoon. The Tigers showed off some of their powerful offense with a goal in the 16th minute by Josh Peterson. Trinity out shot the Cowboys 34-6 in the game, including 17-3 on goal. HSU had survived the offense after some stellar play by freshman goalkeeper Austin White, but the Tigers made it 2-0 in the 67th minute, when Conner Hickey scored off a corner kick. White saved 15 shots in the game for the Cowboys. The Cowboys saw four seniors, including ASC era leading scorer David Salas, Nick Sager, Colt McKee, and Ricky Matthies. HSU ended its season with a mark of 14-6-1 and won their second straight ASC title during the campaign. Trinity advances in the tournament and moved to 19-0-1 on the year. |
