SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer fell to Trinity, 3-2, in the first round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship, Wednesday evening at the Blossom Soccer Complex in San Antonio.

Junior forward David Salas opened the scoring when the Cowboys leading goal scorer chipped a shot over Trinity's goalkeeper Matt Handy. Colt McKee got credit for the assist. The goal came at just 2:31 into the game and was the fourth game in a row when the Cowboys got the first goal in the game. . The fast start for the Cowboys didn't stop the fourth- ranked Tigers. Tyrone Petrakis tied the game when he received a pass from Kyle Altman and slid a shot pass the ASC defensive player of the year, HSU goalkeeper Ryan Shaughnessy. The goal came just a little over seven minutes after the Cowboys took the lead.

The shots kept on coming for the Tigers but yet again Shaghnessy stood on his head and kept the game tied until the 20-minute mark when Trinity took the lead. Cullen Davies scored the goal to make it 2-1 with an assist from Brian Reeves.

The Cowboys fought right back and eventually tied the game when David Salas scored his 12th goal of the year on a free kick. Junior defender Ricky Matthies took the free kick but Salas finished it off at the 33:56 minute mark.

Trinity out shot the Cowboys in the first half 14-4 and five of those were on goal. Hardin-Simmons was plagued with fouls the whole first half having 14 total.

With a little less than 26 minutes to play Trinity took the lead for good with Petrakis scoring his second goal of the game off a rebound of a Reeves shot.

This was the first time all season that the Cowboys got more than two goals scored against them.

The American Southwest Conference champion Cowboys finished the year with an impressive 13-5-2 record. It was the first time since 2001 since the Cowboys have gone to the NCAA playoffs. The Cowboys lose six seniors but have plenty of depth coming back for 2006.

Trinity improved to 17-1-1 on the year and advanced in the NCAA Division III playoffs and will host Webster (Mo.) Saturday.
