Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team won the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a 2-0 win over the University of the Ozarks, Sunday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex.

The Cowboys ASC title was the sixth in school history and the first since the 2001 season, when the Cowboys also defeated Ozarks in Clarksville. The win clinched a spot in the NCAA Tournament for HSU.

Tournament most valuable player David Salas put the Cowboys on the board with a goal in the 20th minute off an assist from Chris Carroll.

The Cowboys added another goal in the 33rd minute when senior Bryan Staub found the back of the net to make it 2-0. The lead was all the Cowboys would need as senior goalkeeper Ryan Shaughnessy was solid in goal with nine saves.

Hardin-Simmons outshot the Eagles 20-13 in the game. The Cowboys improved to 13-4-2 on the year and extended its unbeaten streak to eight games and its winning streak to seven. Ozarks closes the season at 14-4-4.

The announcement of the NCAA Soccer Tournament will be posted on www.ncaasports.com by 8 a.m. on Monday.
