Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Nick Sager gave the Hardin-Simmons men's soccer team the lead and David Salas put the game away as the Cowboys defeated Schreiner 2-1 Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament at the HSU Soccer Complex.

Sager fired a shot in the 60th minute unassisted that hit off the inside of the post and went into the net for the first goal. David Salas scored his ninth goal of the season in the 87th minute to make it 2-0 and send the Cowboys to the finals of the ASC Tournament for the first time since 2001, when HSU won the tournament.

Schreiner scored a goal in the 88th minute when Ben Roell found Roberto Garcia on a corner kick.

Ryan Shaughnessy stood tall in net for the Cowboys with 11 saves as the Mountaineers outshot the Cowboys 19-12 in the match.

The win avenged a 2-0 loss to the Mountaineers earlier in the season for the Cowboys. It sends the top-seeded Cowboys to the finals against No. 2 seeded Ozarks on Sunday at approximately 2:30 on Sunday at the HSU Soccer Complex. Ozarks advanced on penalty kicks over Austin College in the first semifinal.

HSU improved to 12-4-2 and increased its unbeaten streak to seven games and winning streak to six games. Schreiner finishes its season at 10-7-2.
