Cowboys Advance To ASC Semifinals

KERRVILLE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons men's soccer team advanced to the semifinals of the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament with a 2-1 win over Mary Hardin-Baylor, Friday afternoon in Kerrville.

The Cowboys jumped out early in the game when senior Nick Sager found his fellow senior David Salas for a goal in the ninth minute. HSU made it 2-0 with an unassisted goal by Jorge Vega in the 69th minute.

HSU dominated the pace of play and outshot the Crusaders 20-8 and had a 10-1 advantage in corners. UMHB scored in the 79th minute on a goal by Mickey Kerr. Austin White had three saves for the Cowboys in goal.

The Cowboys will play Ozarks in the semifinals at 2 p.m. It is a rematch of the 2005 ASC Conference final, which the Cowboys won 2-0.

HSU improved to 12-5-1 on the year. UMHB closed its season with a record of 10-9-1.
