Nov. 2, 2002

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team lost to McMurry 1-0 in American Southwest Conference Saturday on the McMurry campus.

In an intense 90 minutes with a crowd of about 300, the Cowboys came up short. McMurry player Rudy Irias scored the only goal of the game from a double assist of Robert Irias and Michel Rupe during the first minute of the game. The weather and field conditions took a toll on both teams which could not score for the remainder of the game.

McMurry led with 14 shots while HSU had five.

Senior goalkeeper Chuck Johnson had six saves in 90 minutes of goal.

Fourth-year head coach Kevin Wardlaw said, "This was a good game. McMurry having the home field was an advantage but we tried to play hard. We fought hard this year and the seniors take away with them three conference championships."

HSU finishes out the year with 10-6-1 overall and 6-3-1 in ASC play and McMurry moves to (12-14-1, 6-3).
