Cowboys Knock Off Indians

ABILENE, Texas (McMurry) - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team won its third straight game and broke McMurry's 15-game winning streak at home with a 2-1 win over the Indians, Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action.

The Cowboys scored on a penalty kick in the 60th minute by Nick Sager. HSU then went up 2-0 in the 85th minute as David Salas scored on an assist from Daniel Arnold.

McMurry scored its lone goal in the 86th minute when the Irias brothers hooked up for a goal as Rudy found Robert. Ryan Shaughnessy, a former McMurry goalkeeper got the win in goal for the Cowboys saving four shots.

Dan Heger, the Cowboys head coach, came to HSU from McMurry prior to last season and it is the first time he has beaten his former team, going 1-1-1 in three meetings.

Both teams will advance to the ASC Tournament next week with matches today and tomorrow to decide the seedings.

HSU improved to 10-6-2 on the year and 8-4-1 in ASC play. McMurry fell to 10-7-2 and 9-3-1 in league play. UT-Dallas will host the ASC Tournament next week.
