Oct. 9, 2005
ABILENE, Texas - Just when it seemed the Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team again had its back to the wall, junior forward David Salas came to the rescue and showed why he was the American Southwest Conference Preseason player of the year with a spectacular goal to tie UT-Dallas 1-1 in action Sunday at the HSU Soccer Complex. Salas was tackled at the top of the box, got up turned a rifled a shot into the net past a defenseless Kevin Atnip, who had six saves for the Comets. The goal came in the 67th minute. Neither team was able to find the net in either of the overtimes. Bret Lynch scored on an assist from Gale Moody in the 13th minute for the Comets. UTD outshot the Cowboys 20-13 in the game. Ryan Shaughnessy was solid in goal for the Cowboys with 11 saves. HSU moved its record to 6-4-2 on the year and 4-3-1 in ASC play. UT-Dallas is now 3-6-3 and 2-2-3 in league play. |
