Oct. 6, 2006
ABILENE, Texas - Senior David Salas had been bottled up for most of the day, but he broke free when it mattered most and he buried a shot past Kevin Atnip to give Hardin-Simmons a 2-1 win 3:21 into the overtime period in American Southwest Conference action against UT-Dallas. The Cowboys scored the first goal of the game in the 17th minute when Salas banged the post and Nick Sager followed it up for his seventh goal of the season. Freshman Austin White was lights out in goal recording six saves, before the Comets finally got to him. He had saved a shot on a dive but as he was diving two defenders tripped over him and Jason Lyon hammered home the rebound to equalize the game in the 80th minute. Tyler Allen took the ball away in the defensive backfield and dribbled it up the left side of the field before serving Salas who took the ball from about 20 yards out dribbled in and shot from about eight yards out in front of the keeper, who had no chance at the save. HSU is now 8-3-0 on the year and more importantly 6-1 on the year in league play. UT-Dallas is 7-3-0 and 4-2-0 in conference play. HSU will host the University of the Ozarks in a rematch of the ASC Tournament finals from a year ago at 3 p.m at the HSU Soccer Complex. --- HSU Athletics --- |
