ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team tied with McMurry 1-1 in a battle for first place in the American Southwest Conference's West Division Saturday night at Shelton Stadium. Hardin-Simmons and McMurry are still tied atop the ASC West with 4-0-1 records.
HSU got on the board first in the 18th minute on a penalty kick by sophomore Brad Barham. The Cowboys would hold that 1-0 lead into the half and up until the 73rd minute when Indian freshman Cody Wilson tied the game for good on an assist by sophomore Tim Gorelick. Neither team could put in another goal for the remainder of the game and two ten-minute overtimes.
Sophomore Ryan Shaughnessy went the distance in goal for HSU picking up eight saves, while his counterpart senior Bret Erdman of McMurry had nine saves. HSU outshot McMurry 22-17, including 7-0 in the last overtime. HSU is now 7-2-1 overall and 4-0-1 in ASC play, while McMurry is 7-4-1 and 4-0-1. HSU returns to action Tuesday at UT-Dallas.
