Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team avenged its first conference loss on Friday with a 3-1 over Texas Lutheran in American Southwest Conference Soccer action, Saturday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex.

Senior forward Colt McKee started the scoring for the Cowboys at the 11-minute mark when he took a pass from David Salas and knocked it by Chris Gerhardt. Within the next minute of play Ryan Flanigan took advantage of a loose ball in front of the net and slid it by Gerhardt. The goal came off of an excellent corner kick from Nick Sager and also a pass from Salas.

The Cowboys continued their aggressive play in the second half and in the 58th minute defender Ricky Matthies fed it to Salas who knocked it in the back of the net. In that same minute the Bulldogs countered with a goal of their own. Silas Blackwell took a pass from defenseman Blake Sadler and kicked it past HSU goalkeeper Ryan Shaughnessy.

HSU again outshot their opponent by a margin of 23-7. Although the teams combined for four goals the wind was howling throughout the match due to Hurricane Rita that made landfall early this morning on the Texas-Louisiana border.

The Cowboys improved their record to 5-2-1 and are now 3-1-0 in ASC play. Meanwhile with the loss the Bulldogs moved to 3-4-0 and 2-2-0 in conference action.
