ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team won its American Southwest opener with a 2-1 overtime win over Texas Lutheran, Friday afternoon at the HSU Soccer Complex. Jorge Vega scored the game winner on a breakaway to the upper 90 in the 97th minute. Freshman John Byrom gave the Cowboys an early lead with a goal on an assist from Cody Oswald in the second minute. Texas Lutheran tied the game in the 58th minute on a corner kick. Ben Higgs finished off the corner kick. Justin Shepherd earned the win in goal with three saves. Both teams had 10 shots in the game. HSU is now 1-3 on the year and 1-0 in league play. Texas Lutheran fell to 0-2-1 and 0-1 in league play. The Cowboys host Concordia on Saturday at 4 p.m. |
