Sept. 10, 2005
ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons and Southwestern battled to a 1-1 draw in the final game of the American Southwest Conference/Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Challenge, Saturday evening at Shelton Stadium. Hardin-Simmons scored first in the 40th minute when Daniel Arnold pressured an errant clear to the keeper and sent it in from the left side. Scott Smith scored for the Pirates when he took a misplayed corner kick and snuck it past Ryan Shaughnessy in the 83rd minute. Shaughnessy was stellar for the Cowboys. The senior keeper recorded 15 saves, including a couple of highlights in overtime. HSU had a chance to win the game at the end of the first overtime, but Nick Sager's shot at an empty net went high. HSU outshot the Pirates 26-22 in the game. The Cowboys are now 2-1-1 on the year and Southwestern is 3-0-2. HSU begins conference play next Friday at Concordia-Austin. |
