ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team got out of the gate early and never looked back in a 6-0 home-opening win over Northwood, Friday evening at the HSU Soccer Complex. Freshman Cody Oswald put the Cowboys on the board in the eighth minute on a sweet goal after Nick Sager served it in and David Salas one-touched it to Oswald for a double assist. Roberto Martinez scored on another one touch pass from Colt McKee and Salas in the 31st minute to make it 2-0. Salas scored in the 35th minute. The goal gave him 36 for his career moving him one behind James Burton for second place on the goal charts in the ASC era at HSU. He also moved past Burton into second on the scoring list with his four points. Freshman Matt Lewis scored in the 41st minute and Nick Sager closed the game out with goals in the 87 and 90th minutes. Freshman goalkeeper Austin White was perfect in goal for the Cowboys to record his first career shutout. The Cowboys are 1-2 on the year and Northwood fell to 1-2. HSU hosts Houston Baptist on Monday at 3 p.m. --- HSU Athletics --- |
