Sept. 6, 2002 ABILENE, Texas - James Burton broke a scoreless tie in the fifth minute of overtime as Hardin-Simmons defeated the University of Dallas Friday afternoon in the Clay Corder Classic at Shelton Field at Hardin-Simmons. Burton scored off a rebound and pounded it through for the golden-goal. The Cowboys had outshot Dallas 25-5 prior to the winner. Tim White earned the shutout in goal for the Cowboys, who went to 2-1 on the year. Dallas fell to 1-1. Kent McClure and Sarah Pearson won the Clay Corder awards as the best student officials at Hardin-Simmons. Corder, a former Cowboy soccer player that was killed in a car wreck in 1999, was an outstanding intramural student official at Hardin-Simmons. HSU returns to action Saturday at 4 p.m. when it hosts Austin College. The Kangaroos fell to McMurry 2-0 in the first game of the Classic. |
