Sept. 3, 2005
ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team continued its good start to the 2005 season by getting a 2-1 win over the College of Southwest on Saturday at Shelton Stadium. Chris Carroll opened the scoring when he took a throw in from David Salas and headed it for the goal. College of the Southwest answered the goal from Carroll when Shane Ogilvie got past the Hardin-Simmons defense and slid it past keeper Ryan Shaugnessy. Hardin-Simmons went ahead for good at the 36-minute mark when sophomore Drew Meilinger headed a corner kick from Daniel Arnold. The 2nd half both teams were held scoreless as the rain came in and slowed the play. Shaugnessy, in another strong performance, improved to 2-0 on the new season. Hardin-Simmons is off until a weekend series when they host Trinity (Texas) on September 9 at 8 p.m. and Southwestern on September 10 at 6 p.m. Both games will be played at Shelton Stadium. |
