Oct. 4, 2005 Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team placed sixth at the McMurry Invitational at Fairway Oaks Country Club, Monday in Abilene. The tournament was a late add to the schedule after an earlier tournament at the College of the Southwest had been cancelled. J.C. Eagle led the Cowboys with a third-place finish. He shot rounds of 75 and 70 to finish with a 145. Chris Clifton shot 76-82 - 158, Michael Weehunt 81-80 - 161, Davey Davis shot 87-75 - 162, and Brian Laing 80-83 - 163. Travis Brown played as a medalist and shot rounds of 75 and 77 to place 19th. The team had rounds of 312 and 307 for a 619 total. Mary Hardin-Baylor won the tournament with a 583 team total. The Crusaders' Kody King won the individual crown in a playoff with Michael Faterkowski of Texas Lutheran. They each shot two-round totals of 144. McMurry, LeTourneau, Texas Lutheran and McMurry's JV rounded out the top five. |
