LOMPOC, Calif. - Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team finished third at the California Lutheran Kingsmen Invitational Tournament held earlier this week in Lompoc, Calif. The Cowboys shot a 310-317-312--939 to finish third in the tournament that featured all of the top teams in the West Region. The top three teams in the region will get nods into the NCAA Championships in May. The University of the Redlands won the team race with a blistering 919 on a very demanding 6,996-yard, par-72 La Purisma Golf Course. California Lutheran was second with a 932. Chris Phillips and Clint Wellhausen each had top 10s, individually for the Cowboys. Phillips went 78-74-79 - 231 to finish seventh and Wellhausen shot 77-78-77 - 232 to finish tied for eighth. Aaron Shipley shot 80-81-80 - 241, Ryan Salinas shot 79-87-76-242 and Michael Todd rounded out the lineup with a 76-84-85-245. HSU will play in the District VI Championships the first week of April at Southwestern. The Tournament will feature many of the same teams in this week's field. |
