TEMPLE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team is in fifth place after the first round of the Mary Hardin-Baylor Spring Invitational being played at the Wildflower Country Club in Temple. The Cowboys fired an opening round 310 and are tied with UT-Tyler in fifth. The Cowboys are just six strokes out of second which is held by Trinity, Texas Lutheran shot a 307 for third and LeTourneau shot a 308 for fourth place. Mary Hardin-Baylor blistered its home course with a 291 to take the first round lead. Chris Phillips led the Cowboys with a 75 and Clint Wellhausen fired a 76. Ryan Salinas shot a 79 , Michael Todd carded an 80 and Aaron Shipley rounded out the squad with an 82. Sean Sciba of UT-Tyler lead the individual race, after shooting an open-round 1-under 71. The Tournament will conclude Tuesday with 18 holes. |
