Dec. 5, 2003 WACO, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' senior wide receiver Joe Lemberg has been selected to play in the Aztec Bowl, December 13 in Cancun. American Football Coaches Association today announced the 42-man roster and alternates for the Division III all-star team that will represent the United States against Mexico in the 2003 Aztec Bowl in Cancun, Mexico on December 13. U.S. Head Coach Ron Schipper is looking forward to working with this year's squad. "Preparations for the Aztec Bowl present a tremendous challenge each year," Schipper said. "We have five days to turn 42 young men who have never played together into a football team. But this is an outstanding group of football players and I know they'll rise to the challenge." The Aztec Bowl is the traditional season-ending game for Mexico's college football schedule. The game has been played 32 times since 1947 with the last six contests featuring the United States-Mexico match-up. In their previous Aztec Bowl meetings, the United States defeated Mexico, 15-9 in 2002 in Torreon; 37-5 in 2001 in Saltillo; 27-26 in 2000 in Merida; 44-13 in 1999 in Mexico City; 40-13 in 1998 in Monterrey; and 42-41 in the 1997 game in Toluca. This year's game will kick off at 4 p.m. CST on December 13 and will be played at Estadio Cancun 86. The game can be heard via a webcast that can be accessed at either www.afca.com, www.tsrnsports.com, www.d3football.com or www.aztecbowl.com. Results will be available on the AFCA's website at www.afca.com. Lemberg is the first Cowboy since Kirk Rogers in 2001 to play in the game. |
