Nov. 19, 2003 RICHARDSON, Texas - Five Hardin-Simmons' football players were named to the All-American Southwest Conference team that was voted on by league coaches and Adam Hernandez, was named ASC offensive lineman of the year.
Senior wide receiver Joe Lemberg, joined junior guard
Adam Hernandez and junior running back Lance Moore on the first team
offense. Junior linebacker Brent Gailey and junior corner back Alex Hansen
were named to the defensive squad.
Lemberg led the Cowboys with 47 catches for 622 yards
and five touchdowns. Hernandez helped anchor a line that averaged 200 yards
per game on the ground and gave up only 12 sacks in 291 passing attempts.
Moore led the Cowboys with 1127 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns.
Hansen was a standout in the secondary as team's
rarely threw at him. He had seven interceptions and broke up eight other
passes. He was fifth on the team with 48 tackles. Gailey was second on the
team with 90 tackles and he had 12.5 tackles for loss and two sacks, an
interception and forced three fumbles.
Sophomore quarterback Jordan Neal, senior tight end
Matt Moskosky and junior tackle Garet Black were named to second team
offense and seniors Anthony Renfro (DB) and Adam Taylor (DL) also earned
second-team plaudits on defense.
Junior slotback Triandos Sherrard, junior center Jarad
Hale, sophomore kick returner Jared May, and sophomore defensive linemen
Eric Shults and Reggie Robinson earned honorable mention honors.
Cody Fredenberg and Tony Salazar of Mary Hardin-Baylor
were named offensive and defensive players of the year, respectively.
UMHB's Keith Zunker won defensive lineman of the year honors. A.J.
Edwards of Howard Payne was freshman of the year and East Texas
Baptist's Ralph Harris was named ASC Coach of the Year. Matt
Miller of Louisiana College and Jeff Page of UMHB joined Hernadez as
tri-offensive linemen of the year.
