Memorial Service and Funeral Arrangements Set For Brentdrick Walker

Hardin-Simmons will hold a memorial service for Brentdrick Walker, an HSU student and football player, who was killed in a motorcycle accident on Saturday. The memorial service will be on Thursday at the Behrens Chapel on campus at 9:30 a.m.

His funeral services have also been set. The funeral will be Saturday, Jan. 26 at 2:00 p.m. at Inspirational Body of Christ Church on 7700 S. Westmoreland in Dallas.

Visitation will be Friday, Jan. 25 at 6:00 p.m. at New Independence Baptist Church, which is next to Peaceful Rest Funeral Home on East Illinois Street in Dallas.

"Obviously, it is a horrible tragedy," said Hardin-Simmons football coach Jimmie Keeling. "I just saw Brentdrick on Friday night, he was in the locker room when I got home from a speaking engagement and he was getting ready to go meet with some of the recruits we had on campus."

"He was a super young person that had tried to do everything right with us. He was a fun-loving kid that did whatever we asked him to do. It is always tragic when you lose someone at such a young age."

The Cowboys had a team reflection on Sunday afternoon and it was a touching example of how one person can affect so many lives.

Teammate and good friend Shawn Woods may have put the best words to the situation in the tear-filled meeting.

"Brentdrick, David Joseph and I had this conversation on how we wanted to be remembered when we we're gone," said Woods. "Walker said he would be laughing and smiling down at all of us, because he would be in Heaven, but he also said don't ever forget me, don't ever forget me."

Walker became a starter at cornerback for the Cowboys in 2007, after playing a reserve role his first two years. He started all 10 games at cornerback and had four interceptions in 2007. He played in 17 varsity games for the Cowboys over the past two years.

In 2007, Walker had nine pass breakups and 52 total tackles, fourth best on the team. He was a Sports Fitness and Leisure major at Hardin-Simmons.

Walker came to Hardin-Simmons from Cedar Hill, Texas where he was a standout high school player.
