Cowboys Beat McMurry 42-13

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' capped its regular season with a 42-13 win over crosstown rival McMurry, Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action at Shelton Stadium to retain the Wilford Moore Trophy.

HSU was in what has become routine mode as they jumped out to a 35-7 halftime lead. The Cowboys dominated the line of scrimmage, averaging 7.3 yards per rush in the game. HSU ran for 234 yards and passed for 246 more. The Cowboy defense held McMurry to 251 yards in the game and only 95 through the air.

In the first quarter, HSU went 85 yards in 10 plays over 5:24 to score their first touchdown. Quinton Jones did the honors from 5-yards out. Will Galusha capped a 9-play, 80-yard drive with :46 to go in the quarter with a 11-yard touchdown run.

Justin Greene and Mychal Carrillo each scored on touchdown runs in the second quarter. Desmond Sanders scored for 1-yard out for McMurry.

The second half was played mostly on the ground. Matt Fields capped an 11-play, 80-yard drive to start the quarter and give the Cowboys a 42-7 lead. Sanders scored on a 25-yard pass from Stephen Johnson with 1:39 to play.

Jordan Neal completed 16-of-28 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown. He also completed a catch after the game when longtime girlfriend Amanda Eichorst said yes to his marriage proposal in a postgame ceremony.

The Cowboys close out the regular season with a record of 8-1 and 6-1 in ASC play. McMurry ended its season with a record of 3-7. HSU will await word from the NCAA Selection Committee to see if they earned one of the seven at-large berths to the playoffs. The selections will be announced between 1 and 2 p.m. on Sunday on ESPNEWS.
