ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons moved the ball at will and routed Texas Lutheran 63-34, Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference football action at Shelton Stadium in Abilene. The Cowboys ran up 600 yards of total offense, 459 which came in the first half and were never challenged. Quinton Jones had his second straight 200 yards game with 255 yards on just 12 carries. He also scored on TD runs of four, 53, 71 and 79 yards. As good as Jones was the passing game was even better. Justin Feaster hit 19-of-20 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns. Mychal Carrillo had nine catches for 95 yards and three touchdown catches. HSU led 49-17 at halftime. Jones and Carrillo each scored touchdowns the first two times HSU had the ball and the Cowboys led 14-7 after the first quarter. The second quarter is when the Cowboys kicked the offense into high gear. Jones scored on a 4-yard run and a 79-yard run on consecutive possessions. The Carrillo scored on a 25-yard pass from Feaster, Justice Baker scored on a 23-yard pass from Feaster to make it 49-17. Jones scored on a 71-yard touchdown run to start the third quarter and ZaVious Robbins had a 92-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Robbins broke the single season return yardage record at HSU with his 636 on the year. Anthony Smith had 231 yards and two touchdown for Texas Lutheran. The Cowboys are now 5-4 on the year and 5-2 in ASC play. HSU will play at McMurry to close out its season next week. TLU is now 2-7 on the year. |
