Cowboys Rout Indians, 41-7

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' third-ranked football team continued its domination of the American Southwest Conference with a 41-7 win over cross-town rival McMurry in front of a homecoming crowd of 3,875 at Shelton Stadium on the HSU campus in Abilene.

HSU's defense was the story of the game, as they limited the Indians to just 212 total yards and only 68 through the air. Senior linebacker had 15 tackles and Reggie Robinson had nine tackles, four for loss and two sacks in the game. Nivek Hatcher had 10 tackles, two for loss and a sack. Will Galusha had his eighth interception of the season, including one in each of the last six games.

The Cowboys rolled up 518 yards of total offense, while running just 58 plays in the game. Junior quarterback Jordan Neal had the best game of his career, completing 18 of 26 passes for 338 yards and four touchdowns.

HSU jumped out to an early lead on the first of two Shane McCord field goals, a 29-yarder with 9:53 to go in the first quarter. Lance Moore gave the Cowboys a 10-0 lead with a 5-yard run at the 5:27 mark of the first quarter.

Jared May scored a pair of touchdowns on the Cowboys next two possessions, the first a 14-yarder and then an 87-yarder from Neal. Neal threw two more touchdowns in the third quarter. A 53-yarder on the post to Patrick Shelby and a five-yarder to Len Williams, to make it 38-0. Williams catch was his fourth TD in five catches this season.

McMurry got on the board with 14:27 to go in the game when Chris Luna found Cory Hill. HSU closed out the scoring on a 39-yard field goal by McCord, his longest career effort. Hill led the Indians with 126 yards rushing on the ground.

HSU won the Wilford Moore trophy for the seventh straight year. Moore is a member of both school's athletic hall of fames. HSU has won 17 in a row over McMurry. The Cowboys improved to 8-0 on the year and 7-0 in ASC play. McMurry fell to 2-6, 1-6 in ASC play.

The Cowboys will hit the road to play Austin College at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
