Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' third-ranked football team was held to minus eight yards in the first half and never recovered in a 38-7 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor, Saturday afternoon at Shelton Stadium.

The Crusaders sacked the Cowboys eight times for 97 yards and finished the game with 13 rushing yards on 26 carries. The Cowboys had a season-low 235 yards and the seven points were the lowest since a 1995 game against Howard Payne.

UMHB got on the board first after it had stopped the Cowboys first drive and scored on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Josh Welch to P.J. Williams. Freddie Rollins scored three rushing touchdown for the Crusaders to tie a school record.

HSU's bright spot on offense came when Quinton Jones broke a 57-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. He had five carries for 80 yards.

Jordy Bernhard completed 14-of-20 passes for 107 yards but was intercepted once and sacked eight times. Ryan Hinojoza relieved him in the fourth quarter and completed 10-of-16 passes for 112 yards.

HSU's defense limited the Crusaders to 278 yards of offense, but UMHB had a short field most of the game. The Cru averaged starting at its own 43 for the game. The loss is the most lopsided since a 35-0 loss to Tarleton State in 1991.

The Cowboys still have a half-game lead on the Crusaders in the ASC race as UMHB will play one game less. HSU is 6-1 on the year and 5-1 in league play. The Crusaders are 5-1 on the year and 4-1 in conference play.
