Oct. 18, 2003 ALPINE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' used a solid clock control offense and an opportunistic defense en route to a 35-3 win over Sul Ross State, Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action in Alpine. Jordan Neal was effective at quarterback completing 15-of-21 passes for 211 yards. The Cowboys gained 416 yards in total offense, including 205 yards on the game. Donta' Hayward led the Cowboy attack with 98 rushing yards and also scored a touchdown. Lance Moore added 57 yards and two scores on the ground. Morre scored with 12:11 to go in the first quarter from nine yards out. Jared May gave the Cowboys a 14-0 lead when he scored on a 75-yard pass from Neal. Sul Ross added a 26-yard field goal with :26 to go in the first half to take a 14-3 lead. Moore and Neal scored touchdowns on the Cowboys first two possessions of the second half and the Cowboys ran the ball every play of the fourth quarter to run out the clock. Sul Ross State had four fumbles inside the Cowboys 20-yard line and all four were recovered by the HSU. The Cowboys moved to 5-1 overall and 5-0 in ASC play and set up a showdown with East Texas Baptist next Saturday in Homecoming at Shelton Stadium. The Tigers moved to 5-0 in ASC action with a win against Texas Lutheran on Saturday. |
