ABILENE, Texas - Mississippi College started off strong with a 14-0 lead after one quarter, but after that it was all Hardin-Simmons as the Cowboys scored the next 41 points as HSU routed the Choctaws 48-28 in American Southwest Conference football action at Shelton Stadium on Saturday. MC drove 11 plays and 80 yards and nine plays for 80 yards for scores on the first two drives. Brad Madden hit Marcus Terry from 10 yards out and hit Jake Allen who made a circus catch for a 34-yard touchdown. After that is was all Cowboys. Quinton Jones scored on a 65-yard run to make 14-7 at the 12:19 mark of the second half. Will Galusha then scored on an 8-yard pass from Jordan Neal. HSU ended the first half with a Scott Bryant 30-yard field goal into the wind to give the Cowboys their first lead of the game as time expired. The Cowboys were even more sharp in the second half as Neal hit Carrillo on a 10-yard touchdown pass, then hit Fields on a 27-yard touchdown pass and Justin Greene scored on a 43-yard highlight reel run. Neal broke the school record for career total offense in the game. He had 237 totals yards to break the record of Kevin Beam. The Cowboys rolled up 525 yards of offense in the game. Running back Quinton Jones (112) and Justin Greene (101) each had over 100 yards rushing and also scored a touchdown. Allen had eight catches for 142 yards for MC. Madden completed 24-of-37 passes for 260 yards and three TDs. HSU is 3-0 on the year and 1-0 in American Southwest Conference action. They will travel to arch-rival Mary Hardin-Baylor next Saturday at 2 p.m. The winner of the HSU-UMHB game has won the ASC title every year since 1998. Mississippi College fell to 3-1 on the year and 2-1 in ASC play. |
